Midwives4EXPO: Breastfeeding and Human Lactation
The purpose of this course is to provide an understanding of breastfeeding from both global and local perspective. Worldwide public health initiatives that actively protect, promote and support breastfeeding provide a global context; at the same time it is pertinent to understand the local context, in our case through the local application of the Baby Friendly University Initiative. University of Milano-Bicocca has reached this certification as the first University in Italy. The course is meant for midwives and student midwives that would improve the quality of support extended by them to women and babies.
Topics covered
The course focusses on understanding the structure and function of the breasts and the benefits and propierties of breast milk in establishing a natural personal and public health advantage for infant, women, families and communities. The course also establishes an evidence-based framework for understanding, educating and assisting women and their families with breastfeeding.Program Coordinator
